From July 2023 to January 2025, I worked at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. During my time there, I developed crucial skills that aided in my professional development, made invaluable connections, and most importantly discovered a love for working in the arts.
I began working as an administrative assistant for the School Programs department, and spent many days engaging in fulfilling work. Beyond spending large parts of the day behind the computer with general administrative tasks, I participated in exciting public programs projects, facilitating school field trips to the museum, communicating with educators, and finding joy in connecting students with art. I was green, and working in the non-profit world felt foreign in many ways. However, I found that I had much in common with my peers in the Education and School Programs departments, as we all shared a dedication to providing quality educational programming to all patrons who visited the High Museum.
After an amazing year working in School Programs, I shifted roles and became a member of the Guest Relations team. Working off of the strong foundation I laid on the administrative side, I flourished in my new patron facing role. In addition to selling memberships and tickets, I had a blast helping patrons navigate the museum, troubleshoot ticket or membership issues, discussing artistic interests, and meeting all kinds of people. There was a dramatic increase in hustle and bustle working at the front desk of the museum, but it was an invigorating change.
